The Butterfly Estates incorporates a hands on, natural park atmosphere with an educational twist promoting conservation. This inviting setting provides a place that is not only a botanical garden & butterfly conservatory, but an “experience”. This eco-friendly attraction is the first of its kind in the Downtown Fort Myers River District and brings the diversity of Southwest Florida’s sub-tropical environment to this urban setting.
The primary glazed glass butterfly conservatory & botanical garden exhibits a multitude of tropical flowers, plants, trees & shrubs, along with numerous butterfly species. The Butterfly Estates makes a lasting impression on our guests with our unique presentations of the amazing life cycles of our native butterfly species & their necessary positive impact on the South Florida enviroment. Many of our guests utilize their visits to the park to gather information on the many nectar and host plants that help attract specific species of butterflies to their backyard gardens at home. The peaceful setting of the private grounds envelopes our guests as they tour the park and is an essential oasis to the river districts’ many downtown businesses.
After a four year renovation, the historic buildings at The Butterfly Estates are fully refurbished homes built in the early nineteen hundreds by some of Southwest Florida’s earliest settlers. Guests enjoy the open-air plan of our Flutterby’s Café, originally built in 1913, the southern charm of the wrap around porch provides a place to delight in our award winning organic shade grown coffees & teas. Meticulous detail goes into all of our various imported and domestic epicurian delights to create an impressive array of wonderful tastes that will satisfy even the most discriminating palate.
Exquisite gifts adorn Mother Natures’ Gift Shop, The Butterfly Estates main gift store, where guests amaze at the vast array of the most beautiful items from around the world. The shop was originally built in 1915 & a former home to the Historic Gardner’s District of Fort Myers. The Old Florida charm of the home creates a striking backdrop for all of our nature oriented gifts & decorative accessories. Colorful sights, sounds and smells will enhance your visit to this shop.
We could not resist the temptation to incorporate an Old Fashioned Ice Cream & Sweet Shop called Caterpillars Ice Cream & Fudge Factory at The Butterfly Estates. Enjoy your sweet treats on our outdoor porches of this 1914 Renovated Historic Home. Guests are lured in by the sweet aromas of homemade fudge and fresh ice cream flavors.
